Synopsis

Rita Macleash celebrates her 80th birthday in the dim surroundings of an old folks home. Her only friend Stuart, gets lucky on the horses winning close to a million pounds. His dream come true, he is minted for only seconds as he dies with the shock. Some days later, Rita’s world is turned upside down when she discovers her long lost son Eddie has returned to the Isle of Skye, Rita’s true home, having been left a piece of land in a will. Confused and excited Rita sets out on a mobility scooter to reach him before he leaves for America. She feels she can at least give him Stuart’s money if that’s what he needs. Gradually the story of Eddie is revealed, he has returned to Skye to seek closure to a traumatic incident that happened when he was seventeen, when he was caught in a homosexual act. Terrified and ashamed he ran away, never to be seen again. 

The parallel stories of Rita and Eddie fundamentally concern redemption, forgiveness and acceptance. They must forgive each other and more importantly themselves in order to find peace.
